So! Now that I'm done doing the strict still life thing for the time being, I'm back to learning how to do my own style (even though from what I heard, they're just going to strip us of that again come the first year of school.)
Uh... So, I'm planning to try and get my name out as an artist, and do commissions while I'm still down here for another two and a half months. I'm wanting to know if anyone has suggestions, as far as where to network for people to hire me for individual pieces? I don't plan on starting them just yet, but I'd like to have an idea before I do.

i dont think it will take

as an artis Al
you can do it
But it's good that you're back to finding your own style. I need to work on that as well, though I'm not sure if I should try something like that when I'm about to start college art classes in the fall.
How was your last semester? Did you learn anything?

I'm not even sure myself if I should dedicate myself to finding a style again... from what I heard from the seniors here, in the first year of illustration (second year student), they will strip you of any styles they notice you use, haha.
My last semester was pretty good. Very demanding, but otherwise it was good. I learned quite a bit... with the classes I had (basic drawing, figure drawing, basic design...) they make you go to the basics, and wouldn't let us shade until the second/late in second semester, but it was useful. For our design class, we pretty much learned composition with basic shapes (though it seemed more like abstract to me.. T_T) although in the second semester we learned things from building boxes from scratch, making wearable outfits from recycled items, or just using clay and stuff.
Just in general... for the first year, I learned a bunch.
The strip-age of style bit sounds a little...er...painful, so I wish you luck with that particular ordeal...
I guess going back to the basics can be a good thing, in that case. Helps you learn better in the end, that sort of thing...

How're things going? I know you posted this journal a while ago, but I figured it's never too late to send a reply now is it?
By the way, if you're still picking up commissions, I'll totally take you up on one.

I can't really complain about things, too much. It'd just be nice to have enough time to settle and hold a job, instead of running all over for trips and tournaments. Make some cash, right? But, maybe next year.
And yeah, I've decided to start doing them even though I haven't tried advertising yet (trying to gather or create stuff as better examples). n.n'
I also need to make some cash too. I've been collecting Snorlax dolls from this Pokemon community on LJ, and it's been slowly chipping away at my wallet. Good thing I rarely spend money on luxury items!
Ha ha, just let me know when you're starting. I'm mad jealous of your skills, and I'd totally like to see some things drawn by you.
